Valheim Ashlands Update: New biome and content
Valheim, a survival game inspired by Norse mythology, has gained a huge fanbase since its debut in 2021. For all those who might be slightly weary of the last major update that introduced the Mistlands, we have great news! Starting May 14, 2024, a completely new terrain awaits us for exploration, promising to bring even more challenges and exciting adventures! In this article, we will take a closer look at the Ashlands biome and other new features that will surprise you after the latest Valheim update.
Completely new biome
The title land, Ashlands, is full of surprises and will astonish you with entirely new types of creatures, weapons, and mechanics. It is located in the southern part of the map, completely separated by water from other regions. This means that you cannot reach it on foot, but only by using a special ship called Drakkar. Other ships that you may have encountered during earlier gameplay will likely be destroyed by the fiery red waters.
How to get to Ashlands?
Reaching the Ashlands will require you to build the previously mentioned Drakkar ship. This is quite an exhausting endeavor, which you likely began by finishing your adventure in the Mistlands. The boss, known as The Queen, dropped an item called QueenDrop – in the new update, it is called Majestic Carapace. This item will be necessary for upgrading the Artisan Table to the Artisan Press. Below, you will find the recipe for the upgrade:
Artisan Press Upgrade | 1x Majestic Carapace 5x Black Marble 5x Bronze |
Once you have created the Artisan Press, you can begin producing Ceramic Plates (to produce 5 Ceramic Plates, you need 5 Black Marbles), which are essential for building the Drakkar ship. Below is the full list of components needed to create the ship:

Now that you have created your dream ship, it’s time for a long and dangerous voyage. Head to the southernmost part of the map. Once you cross the boundary of the orange ocean, be prepared for all the dangers lurking in the Ashlands!

Amazing mechanics waiting in the Ashlands
In addition to content in the form of monsters, weapons, or recipes, several significant mechanics related to the world’s behavior await you. The world of Ashland is quite dangerous due to the ash that falls from the sky to the ground, causing damage to less cautious players. Wooden structural elements can easily catch fire, and the fire will spread beyond the Ashlands. Besides the falling ash, deadly lava lurks, spreading over a significant part of the landscape. The waters surrounding the land are hot and can quickly destroy ships not suited for harsh conditions. In addition to these dangers, there are also positive aspects of gameplay waiting for you! You will receive two new siege machines, and your Flametal weapon will be upgradeable with magical powers related to blood, storm, and nature! The game creators have certainly prepared a completely new dimension of experiences in the world of Valheim!
