One of the most important factors influencing the gameplay experience on a Minecraft server is the difficulty level. The server administrator can change this setting at any time, adjusting the difficulty to match the players’ skill levels. The easiest, Peaceful, is dedicated to servers focused on world exploration and building various structures. The Easy and Normal levels offer balanced challenges, ideal for intermediate players. Fans of intense experiences can use the Hard mode, which significantly increases danger by exposing players to extremely aggressive mobs. In this article, we will explain how to change the difficulty level to one of the four basic types.

How to change server difficulty via server console
1. Go to the control panel and select your Minecraft server.
2. Go to the “Console” tab where you will find your game server console.
3. To set a different difficulty level, enter the command:
difficulty <difficulty>
If you entered the command correctly, the server will respond in a similar way to the following (in this case we set the difficulty level to hard):
[17:29:23] [Server thread/INFO]: The difficulty has been set to Hard
Not sure which difficulty level is right for you? Use this table:
Difficulty | Description |
peaceful | The easiest level intended for players who want to focus on exploration and creating their world. Aggressive mobs do not appear, the player’s health regenerates very quickly, cannot die from hunger. |
easy | A slightly more difficult level where mobs deal a small amount of damage. The player’s health regenerates fairly quickly, but can not die from hunger. |
normal | The standard difficulty level where mobs appear regularly, dealing moderate amounts of damage. The player can die from hunger, health does not regenerate as quickly as in easier difficulty levels. |
hard | The most difficult level where mobs appear very frequently and deal a large amount of damage. Health regenerates slowly, and the player can die from hunger. |
