Tutorial Island
The world of Rust can be cruel and from the very beginning it sets before you the most important goal, which is survival. Mastering this art can take a long time and require a lot of luck. The creators of Rust decided to make life easier for novices by introducing Tutorial Island. This new feature will invite you to start guided training as soon as you join the server. This is a great chance to learn basic survival techniques without enemies lurking around every corner.
After joining the appropriate server (not every server offers tutorial option), you will see a window informing you about the possibility of training. After accepting the invitation, you will be greeted by an NPC resting near the downed helicopter. From now on, you will perform a number of tasks under his watchful eye.
Learn the basics
You will start your journey by learning the basic mechanics of movement. After this necessary farce, it will be time to learn how to extract resources. Your first tool in the form of a found stone will allow you to extract:
- 400 Wood
- 200 Stone
The acquired materials will allow you to complete the next task, which is to create more advanced tools: To complete the next step, you will create:
- Hatched
- Axe
Create your first shelter
After a short introduction, after which you can do the absolute basics, you can start creating your first shelter. The resources received from the NPC will allow you to build a makeshift hut consisting of a floor, walls, a roof and a door. You will be able to equip it with a handmade door, cabinet and lock. Don’t forget about the sleeping bag, to create which you need to obtain:
- 30 Cloth
Creating a makeshift shelter will not be the end of the construction experience. Your next task will be to create a Hammer, which will let you to upgrade your hut with wood.
Learn to hunt and cook
The next task will be to create a Wooden Spear and kill two chickens. To satisfy your hunger, you will need to create a fire in which you will roast two pieces of chicken. Everything might seem idyllic – after all, you already have your desired home and you are not hungry. Surprise! You were killed by a bear. You will be reborn with a thirst for blood and the desire to defeat your enemy. You only need a few items:
- Bow
- 3 Bandages
- Burlap Pants
- Burlap Shirt
You are ready to defeat the bear!
Create crafting stations and escape the island
After learning the building techniques, you will easily create Furnace and Work Bench. There’s no point in delaying – it’s time to leave the island and face the cruel world of Rust. Create Kayak and Paddle. Deploy Kayak in the ocean and start adventure!
Night time changes
Another new feature that improves the gameplay experience is the introduction of the “Nightlight” function. This feature introduces a shader that illuminates a small area around the player, making it easier to move around at night. This is a great solution that eliminates a long-standing problem reported by players. Navigating at night will now be a bit easier!
