DREAD is a unique modpack where every expedition could be your last. The world is shrouded in constant dimness and thick fog, and instead of typical mobs, you’ll encounter terrifying creatures straight out of a nightmare. When starting the game, you should quickly find a safe shelter. Below you’ll find a few tips to help you survive the first moments of survival:

• Gathering resources and tools: Don’t waste time — right after you spawn, gather wood for planks, and use sticks and stones to craft your first basic tools.
• Shelter: Build a makeshift bunker or dig into the side of a hill to wait out the first night. Light the inside of your shelter well, because night in DREAD is extremely dangerous.
• Avoid open spaces at night: In the dark, it’s easy to fall victim to something you won’t even notice. If you have to go out, move with a torch and listen carefully to the sounds around you.
• Delay cave exploration: Underground is deadly from the very beginning. Until you get better gear, it’s best not to venture deep underground.

Darkness and Fog

At night, the entire area becomes covered in thick, dark fog and the light level drops almost to zero. Darkness is deadly — if you wander into complete darkness without a light source, you’ll fall straight into the clutches of the creatures lurking there. Always carry a supply of torches and place them densely while exploring. Fog and darkness severely limit visibility, making ambushes much more likely. Remember that some ghosts can break into seemingly safe shelters.

Cave Dweller is a terrifying cave-dwelling creature that starts stalking you as soon as you go underground. As you explore, you’ll hear a growing, horrifying echo of sounds in the cave — a sign that something is watching you and getting closer. Cave Dweller attacks suddenly and is nearly impossible to stop with traditional combat. As a result, venturing underground can be a death sentence. Try to gather resources closer to the surface, for example in shallow mines — otherwise Cave Dweller will find you sooner or later.

The Knocker

The Knocker is an unpredictable stalker that can follow you literally anywhere. It always knows where you are and can suddenly appear right next to you — even in your base. When you lie down to sleep, it might turn out that he’s right next to you, watching from the shadows. In practice, this means that even in your base, you should keep your eyes open and always have a weapon ready in case the Knocker attacks.

Herobrine

In the world of DREAD, there’s also Herobrine, whose presence is subtle and meant to build a sense of horror. You might spot a white-eyed player disappearing behind trees. Such hauntings can send a chill down your spine — especially when you’re alone in the night. Although he won’t attack you directly, he can lower your guard — and someone else might strike when you least expect it.

The Man From the Fog

The Man From The Fog is a rare mob that appears only in dense fog and doesn’t attack immediately. At first, it stands still and watches you from a distance, and when you look away, it can teleport closer. It’s designed to confuse and scare players, so the best strategy when you encounter it is to simply walk away quickly.

The Mimcer

While exploring abandoned structures, you have to watch out for him. He can take the form of various objects and mobs. To avoid falling into this trap, observe everything closely — even an innocent-looking sheep.
