How to make Pokeballs in Pixelmon

Pixelmon is one of the most popular Minecraft modpacks, combining the classic sandbox world with gameplay mechanics straight from the Pokémon universe. Instead of fighting Creepers or building chicken farms, you begin your journey as a Pokémon Trainer — catching, training, trading with other players, and exploring vast biomes in search of powerful and legendary creatures. This is where the familiar world of Minecraft becomes filled with Pokémon roaming in the wild, ready to be discovered.

And this brings us to the most essential element of Pixelmon gameplay: Poké Balls. Without them, you can’t catch a single Pokémon. They are the core tool of every trainer — the equivalent of swords and pickaxes in vanilla Minecraft. Each Poké Ball has different effectiveness and unique effects — some work better on specific types of Pokémon, while others provide bonus catch rates during certain conditions, such as the start of battle or underwater encounters.

Players can’t simply buy Poké Balls by default — they must craft them manually, gathering specific resources and assembling each component step by step. In this article, we will walk you through the entire crafting process in detail, so you can start catching Pokémon like a pro.

How to Craft a Pokeball

The first Pokeball that almost every player crafts at the beginning of their Pixelmon journey is the classic Pokeball. It’s the most basic and essential tool – simple to make, inexpensive, and perfect for catching your first low-level Pokémon. Every Pokeball in the game is made from three core components:

  • Lid – crafted from Apricorns
  • Base – crafted from metal
  • Stone Button – the mechanism that seals the Pokémon inside

This is the standard combination used to create a Pokeball and serves as the foundation for all other Pokeball types.

The Lid is the top part of a Pokeball and is made from Apricorns. The color of the Apricorns depends on the type of Pokeball you want to craft, but the process is always the same:

  1. Collect Apricorns that grow on trees in the Pixelmon world.
  2. Smelt them in a furnace – place the Apricorns in the furnace to obtain Cooked Apricorns.
  3. Open the Crafting Table and place 3 Cooked Apricorns in a horizontal row.

The Apricorns you can use come in the following colors:

  • Red
  • Blue
  • Yellow
  • Green
  • Pink
  • Black
  • White

To create a Stone Button, place 1 Stone in the Crafting Table.

The Base is the bottom part of a Pokeball. In Pixelmon, there are several types of bases depending on how advanced the Pokeball you want to craft is. Every base is created using the exact same method – the only difference is the type of metal you use. The process is simple:

  1. Obtain metal ingots by smelting ores in a furnace.
  2. Open the Crafting Table.
  3. Place 3 ingots in a horizontal row.

The metals you can use to create a base are:

  • Iron
  • Aluminum
  • Silver
  • Platinum
