List of All Don’t Starve Together Characters
Below is a full list of all playable characters in Don’t Starve Together, along with a brief overview of their abilities and unique mechanics.
Wilson
Wilson is the default and most neutral character in the game, featuring balanced values of health, hunger, and sanity, without any hidden modifiers. He is predictable and easy to control, which is especially important during the first days of a new world.
Wilson’s most distinctive trait is his growing beard. With each passing day, it provides increasing thermal insulation, making it significantly easier to survive the winter season. Thanks to this mechanic, players can delay crafting certain winter clothing items and reduce the amount of resources needed to stay warm. When shaved, Wilson’s beard yields beard hair used in crafting and grants a small sanity boost. This makes it not only a survival tool but also a renewable resource that can be strategically managed throughout the game.

Willow
Willow is strongly connected to fire-based mechanics, and her playstyle revolves around using flames both as a survival tool and as a way to manage sanity. Her greatest advantage is her immunity to fire damage, which allows her to safely rely on fire-based strategies in combat and while clearing areas.

Wolfgang
Wolfgang is one of the strongest combat-oriented characters, whose potential depends directly on his hunger level. The more well-fed he is, the stronger he becomes. In his most powerful form, he deals significantly higher damage, works faster with tools, and performs more effectively during combat.
However, this mechanic works both ways. When his hunger drops, he loses part of his effectiveness and becomes noticeably weaker. Wolfgang is a character best suited for players who prefer an aggressive playstyle and enjoy active, direct combat.

Wendy
Wendy is known for the presence of her twin sister, Abigail. Unlike other characters, her strength does not come from direct bonuses, but from the support provided by Abigail. Wendy can summon her sister’s spirit, who appears as a companion and attacks hostile creatures nearby, providing real support in combat and helping defend the base.

WX-78
WX-78 is a mechanical character who can increase his stats by consuming gears. Each gear permanently raises his maximum stats, allowing him to become stronger than most other characters over time. His biggest weakness is his vulnerability to rain – moisture causes him to lose health and sanity, so he requires proper preparation during the rainy season.

Wickerbottom
Wickerbottom is a character with the highest base sanity and unique abilities related to books. Her playstyle revolves around managing knowledge and using reading as a survival tool. Her main weakness is her limited ability to sleep, as she cannot use standard sleeping structures, so she must rely on alternative methods to restore health and sanity.

Woodie
Woodie is focused on chopping trees and starts the game with an axe, giving him a significant advantage in gathering wood and building a base quickly. However, his biggest drawback is his werebeaver curse. From time to time, or during specific moon phases, he transforms into a werebeaver and loses control of himself. In this form, he can cause chaos within the team, so playing him requires careful planning and awareness of the lunar cycle.

Wes
Wes is a character known as a silent acrobat and mime, and playing him is focused on challenge and skill. His main feature is the acrobatics mechanic and the use of items such as balloons and confetti, which can be used to control enemies or create distractions during combat.

Maxwell
Maxwell is one of the more interesting characters, with rich lore and a unique playstyle. He starts the game with higher sanity than most other characters, and his core mechanic revolves around summoning shadows (Shadow Creatures). He can create helper units that perform various tasks, from fighting to gathering resources and building structures.

Wigfrid
Wigfrid is a character inspired by warriors and mythology, whose playstyle focuses on combat and survival through physical strength. She starts the game with her own helmet and spear, giving her an immediate advantage in melee combat. Additionally, she receives a bonus to damage dealt to monsters, making her especially effective against stronger enemies.

Webber
Webber is closely connected to spiders, which are not hostile toward him and do not attack him on sight. Because of this, he can move around their territory much more safely than other characters. He is also able to befriend them and use them as allies in combat or for base defense. This opens up entirely new gameplay strategies based on cooperating with creatures that are normally a threat to other survivors.

Winona
Winona focuses primarily on base support, construction, and efficient teamwork. She starts the game with a hammer and a set of materials, giving her an advantage when building structures and expanding the base more quickly. Her main strength is the ability to deploy helpful devices such as work stations. Because of this, Winona performs very well in the role of a builder or the team’s engineer.

Warly
Warly is a character focused on cooking and food management, and his playstyle revolves around a specialized cuisine that provides both health and strategic benefits. He starts the game with a Portable Crock Pot and a set of ingredients, allowing him to prepare meals that restore health, hunger, and sanity from the very beginning.

Wortox
Wortox is a character whose main mechanic revolves around managing and consuming souls. He is a demonic being who can use the energy of his enemies to his advantage, giving him unique survival abilities. He can collect the souls of defeated foes and consume them to restore health. This makes him more self-sufficient than most other characters in the game.

Wormwood
Wormwood is strongly connected to nature, and he is strengthened by contact with plants and sunlight. He has a natural symbiosis with plants, is not hostile toward them, and can benefit from their presence. His unique trait is that he loses less hunger when eating plant-based food, and some plant ingredients provide him with additional benefits. Sunlight supports his sanity, but contact with fire and flammable elements can be risky for him.

Wurt
Wurt is based on her connection to nature and the swamp-dwelling Merm community. Her playstyle differs from other characters because she performs best when staying near her own territory and the creatures she can recruit, specifically Merms. Merms become her allies and defend her from enemies, which makes her gameplay revolve around creating a safe zone around the base and using Merms as protection. Wurt also gains bonuses near water and swamp areas, allowing her to perform most effectively in those environments.

Walter
Walter is a character focused on team support, cooperation, and exploration. He is equipped with abilities that make teamwork easier and help him handle various situations in the game world. His greatest strength is his ability to track clues and footprints, which help locate targets, monsters, or useful resources on the map. Because of this, he becomes an excellent scout and valuable support for other players.

Wanda
Wanda has a unique mechanic based on time-related effects and manipulating the day cycle. Her playstyle focuses on strategic time management, giving her clear advantages when planning actions and reacting to changing conditions in the game world. She starts the game with several time-based items that allow her to speed up or slow down the passage of time, as well as create effects that influence cooldowns and repeated actions. She can also summon a clockwork version of herself from the past.

Wonkey
Wonkey is not a selectable character in Don’t Starve Together, but the result of a curse that a player can apply to themselves. After collecting all pieces of the Monkey Curse and triggering the transformation on Moon Quay Island, the character turns into Wonkey and gains monkey abilities, such as throwing bananas and moving more agilely, while simultaneously losing access to their original character’s unique abilities.
