Frogs in Minecraft eat small slimes, small magma cubes, and slimeballs. They have a very specific diet and, instead of eating traditional food items, they interact with certain mobs and a drop from slimes. In this guide, we’ll explain exactly why they eat specific mobs and how these mechanics work.
All Frog Foods in Minecraft
Below you’ll find a list of all the mobs and items that frogs eat in Minecraft.
Small Magma Cubes
The most important and practical food for frogs in Minecraft is small magma cubes.
Frogs eat small magma cubes to produce froglights, which are unique decorative light blocks available in three colors. When a frog eats a magma cube, instead of dropping the standard item (magma cream), it produces a froglight. These come in three color variants:
- Pearlescent (when eaten by a warm frog)
- Ochre (when eaten by a temperate frog)
- Verdant (when eaten by a cold frog)

Small Slimes
Another thing frogs eat are small slimes. When a frog eats a small slime, it drops a slimeball, allowing you to obtain this item without having to defeat slimes yourself.

This mechanic is especially useful if you want to create a slimeball farm.
Slimeballs
Slimeballs are the most important food for frogs and are used for breeding them. When a player feeds two adult frogs with slimeballs, they enter love mode and red hearts appear.

After a short time, one of the frogs moves to a water source and lays frogspawn, which are eggs that hatch into tadpoles. After some time, the frogspawn turns into tadpoles, and the tadpoles eventually grow into adult frogs
