Villages are among the most important naturally generated structures in the world of Minecraft. They consist of clusters of buildings inhabited by villagers, with whom you can trade, obtain valuable items, and develop your own base. These locations can significantly ease the beginning of a new playthrough, especially in Survival mode.
Villages offer you:
- ready-made buildings with beds, crafting stations, and crops,
- villagers with various professions,
- a potential source of food and basic resources,
- infrastructure elements that can be expanded and customized.
Over time, villages can evolve into key hubs for advanced gameplay — from emerald farming to fully automated trading systems.

How to find village
Villages only generate in specific biomes, so if you want to increase your chances of finding one quickly, you need to know where to look. Currently, villages can appear in the following biomes: Plains, Desert, Meadow, Savanna, Taiga, and Snowy Plains. Each biome features a distinct architectural style — from sandy desert huts to snow-covered cabins in the tundra. In practice, Plains and Desert biomes are the easiest places to find villages, as they are flat, open, and offer excellent visibility, making exploration much easier.
When searching for villages, it’s important to move efficiently across the world. Traveling on foot with a high render distance is a reliable method, but you can move even faster using a horse, boat, or, later in the game, an Elytra. Climbing to high vantage points and looking around carefully can also help you spot a village from afar.
Here are some key signs to watch for:
- Smoke rising from chimneys, visible from a long distance
- Symmetrical rooftops that stand out from natural terrain
- Rectangular crop fields with wheat, carrots, or potatoes
- Paths made of dirt or sand, often leading between structures
- Sounds, such as bells ringing or villager chatter nearby
If you’re not in the mood for a long search, there’s a quicker option available — using commands in Creative Mode. Simply type:
/locate structure minecraft:village

Although the world of Minecraft is practically infinite, finding a village early in the game can significantly speed up your progress. These locations offer not only safety, but also convenient sources of essential resources — from wood and food to even books from village libraries. Thanks to villages, you don’t have to build everything from scratch right away; you can spend the night, use existing structures, and plan your exploration more effectively.
What’s more, villagers eventually become an invaluable source of items — from basic tools to enchantments and even ender pearls. You can control their professions, breed them, and eventually create a fully automated trading hall tailored to your needs.
