Where to Find Coal in 7 Days to Die

Burnt Forest is definitely the best place to look for coal, especially during the early stages of the game. Unlike other biomes, coal in this area does not come only from mining underground veins but also from the environment itself, which makes gathering it much faster. The burned biome is filled with characteristic charred trees and ember piles, which are natural sources of coal. By cutting down burned trees and destroying ember piles, you receive coal directly. While exploring this biome, you can collect coal almost effortlessly as part of normal exploration.

Coal can also be found in other biomes, but gathering it there is not as fast or efficient as in the Burnt Forest. In most cases, it requires deliberately searching for deposits or mining underground instead of collecting it naturally during exploration. A very good biome for coal hunting is the Snow Forest, where coal appears as surface deposits marked by black nodes that clearly stand out against the white background. In the Forest and Desert biomes, it is also possible to find black coal deposits on the ground, but they are much easier to miss while exploring. The worst place to search for coal is the Wasteland, as deposits are very rare there and difficult to spot in the chaotic environment.
