How to Get Water in 7 Days to Die

In 7 Days to Die, water is one of the essential resources needed for survival. It is primarily used for drinking and maintaining proper hydration, without which your character will suffer from reduced stamina regeneration and overall lower effectiveness. In addition, water is necessary for crafting – you will use it to cook food, prepare drinks, and create various other items.

Without a steady supply of water, long exploration trips can quickly become problematic, which is why securing a reliable source should be one of your top priorities. Unfortunately, water appears relatively rarely as loot, so you will need to obtain it through other methods.

How to Get Clean Water in 7 Days to Die

The methods below will allow you to obtain clean water in 7 Days to Die.

Clean Murky Water

The simplest way to secure water early in the game is by obtaining Murky Water, which can later be boiled and turned into clean drinking water. You can find Murky Water by looting kitchen cabinets, toilets, sinks, food containers, and many other household storage areas. However, it is not guaranteed loot, so it’s important to search as many rooms as possible.

The most efficient method, though, is collecting water directly into an Empty Jar, for example from a nearby river or lake. Empty Jars are fairly common loot items, so you should be able to find them without much difficulty.

Once you have Murky Water, go to your Campfire equipped with a Cooking Pot (without it, the recipe will not be available) and select the boiled water recipe. Each jar of contaminated water will be converted into a jar of clean water, allowing you to safely hydrate your character.

Use Dew Collector

The Dew Collector is one of the most important mid-game devices when it comes to securing a steady water supply. Unlike collecting Murky Water from rivers or loot, it works passively – producing water in the background while you explore, fight, or craft. The Dew Collector operates automatically once placed outdoors. Production happens in cycles, and after a certain amount of time, water will appear in its storage. The device must be placed under open sky, as it will not function properly if positioned under a roof or full cover.

An important aspect of the Dew Collector is its upgrade potential. If you do not install a Water Filter, the device will produce Murky Water, which must still be boiled before drinking. However, once you install a Water Filter, it will generate clean drinking water directly, eliminating the need for further purification.

  • 4 Duct Tape

FAQ

How do you drink water from a river in 7 Days to Die?

In 7 Days to Die, you cannot drink directly from a river. You must first collect the water using an Empty Jar, which gives you Murky Water. However, drinking it without boiling carries a significant risk, so it is not recommended.

How can you get more water from a Dew Collector?

To increase water production, you can upgrade the device. Installing a Gatherer mod increases the speed at which the collector fills up. Additionally, installing a Tarp doubles the amount of water collected in one of the three slots. Another effective method is simply placing multiple Dew Collectors, which increases overall production without requiring upgrades.

What happens if you drink Murky Water?

Drinking contaminated water can cause dysentery, which reduces hydration and negatively affects stamina regeneration. This makes exploration and combat significantly more difficult.

Why can’t I boil water in the Campfire?

One possible reason is that you have not turned on the Campfire or added fuel to the correct slot. Other common issues include not having Murky Water in your inventory or not having a Cooking Pot installed in the Campfire.
