Minecraft Animals: Everything you need to know about Frog

Frogs are one of the most interesting and adorable mobs in Minecraft. They are unique not only in appearance but also because they come in three different colors, depending on the biome where their tadpoles grow up. Players can breed them, transport them, and even use them in Froglight farms. Frogs naturally spawn in two biomes: Swamp and Mangrove Swamp. These are the places where you’ll find adult, orange-colored frogs spawning on the surface near water. If you want to get frogs of different colors, you’ll need to breed tadpoles and move them to the appropriate biomes to grow.

How to tame a Frog in Minecraft

Unlike wolves or cats, frogs in Minecraft do not have a full taming mechanic. This means that no heart particles will appear above them, and they won’t follow the player on their own. However, they do respond to slimeballs, and if you hold one in your hand, they may approach you and focus on you for a short time. This can be useful if you want to gather them in one spot without using a lead. However, if you decide to use a lead, it will be the most effective way to control these creatures, allowing you to guide them wherever you want.

Frog breeding

To breed frogs, you need two adult frogs and slimeballs, which drop from small slimes. When you feed the frogs with slimeballs, they will enter breeding mode, and hearts will appear above them. After a moment, one of the frogs will search for water and lay eggs on its surface. It’s important that there is a water block nearby with an empty space above it. After the eggs are laid, wait a few minutes for tadpoles to hatch.

How to pick up Frog eggs

Frogspawn cannot be picked up with any tool or bucket. If you try to break them, the eggs will simply disappear and cannot be recovered. The only way to control where they hatch is to make sure the eggs are laid exactly where you want them – ideally in a prepared water pool. Only after the tadpoles hatch can you collect them using a water bucket and transport them to other biomes.

All Frog colors in Minecraft

These creatures come in three different colors: orange, green, and white. Their color doesn’t depend on where the eggs are laid, but on the biome where the tadpole grows up. Orange frogs spawn naturally in swamps and mangrove swamps, while green and white ones must be bred manually.

How to get green Frog

Once you’ve bred your frogs and the tadpoles have hatched, you can collect them in a water bucket and move them wherever you want. To get a green variant of this mob, you need to take the tadpoles to one of the cold biomes, such as:

Frozen Ocean

  • Deep Frozen Ocean
  • Frozen River
  • Snowy Plains
  • Snowy Taiga
  • Ice Spikes
  • Grove
  • Snowy Slopes
  • Jagged Peaks
  • Frozen Peaks

How to get white Frog

Obtaining the white frog follows the same steps as with the green one. However, instead of a cold biome, you need to bring the tadpoles to a warm biome, such as:

  • Desert
  • Savanna
  • Savanna Plateau
  • Windswept Savanna
  • Jungle
  • Sparse Jungle
  • Bamboo Jungle
  • Badlands
  • Eroded Badlands
  • Wooded Badlands
  • Warm Ocean

How to get Froglight in Minecraft

Froglight is a glowing block that emits light at the maximum level, just like glowstone. You won’t find it naturally in the world – it must be created with the help of a magmacube. To get a Froglight, bring a frog close to a small magmacube, and if the frog eats it, it will immediately drop a glowing block. The color of the Froglight depends on the color of the frog: green frogs produce Verdant Froglight, orange frogs give Ochre Froglight, and white frogs drop Pearlescent Froglight.
