What Does Sulfur Cube Do in Minecraft

The Sulfur Cube is a unique block that changes its behavior depending on the block it absorbs. Different blocks give it different properties, such as becoming sticky, explosive, bouncy, slippery, lightweight, or even damaging to nearby entities.

What Happens When the Sulfur Cube Absorbs a Block

Below, we’ll take a closer look at every Sulfur Cube archetype and explain how each one changes its behavior.

Becomes Bouncy

When the Sulfur Cube absorbs any of the following blocks, it becomes Bouncy:

  • Planks
  • Wood
  • Bamboo Mosaic
  • Stripped Wood
  • Logs
  • Block of Bamboo
  • Stripped Logs
  • Block of Stripped Bamboo

The Bouncy Sulfur Cube moves at high speed, bounces much higher than most other archetypes, has medium ground friction, and low air drag. This combination allows it to travel quickly while rebounding multiple times before coming to a stop, making it ideal for fast movement and creative contraptions.

Becomes Explosive

If the Sulfur Cube absorbs TNT, it becomes Explosive. It retains balanced movement similar to the Regular archetype but can be ignited to explode, making it perfect for traps, puzzles, and explosive builds.

Rolls Faster

The Fast Flat archetype is created when the Sulfur Cube absorbs one of the following blocks:

  • Coral Blocks
  • Dead Coral Blocks
  • Sponge
  • Wet Sponge
  • Dried Kelp Block
  • Moss Block
  • Pale Moss Block
  • Block of Resin
  • Resin Bricks
  • Chiseled Resin Bricks
  • Pumpkin
  • Melon
  • Hay Bale
  • Carved Pumpkin
  • Jack o’Lantern
  • Froglights

This archetype gives the Sulfur Cube high movement speed with very little bounce. It also has medium ground friction and low air drag, allowing it to travel quickly while staying close to the ground, similar to a golf ball.

Slides Across the Ground

Blue Ice, Packed Ice, and Snow Block give the Sulfur Cube its Fast Sliding behavior. Instead of bouncing around, it glides across the ground like a hockey puck. It keeps its speed well, barely bounces, and slides much farther than most other archetypes before finally coming to a stop.

Gains High Resistance

Soul Sand and Soul Soil give the Sulfur Cube much more grip. It moves slowly, barely bounces, and stays in place instead of sliding away.

Becomes Hot

Absorbing a Magma Block gives the Sulfur Cube a fiery twist. It behaves much like the Regular archetype, but damages any entity it touches. This makes it a great choice for traps, obstacle courses, or defensive builds.

Becomes Lightweight

Wool makes the Sulfur Cube much lighter. It bounces high with every impact, but moves more slowly than most other archetypes. Thanks to its high air drag, it also loses speed quickly while traveling through the air, making it behave a bit like a lightweight beach ball.

Behaves Like a Regular Ball

Concrete Powder, Mud, Grass Block, Clay, Bone Block, and several other natural blocks give the Sulfur Cube its Regular behavior.

  • Concrete Powder
  • Mud
  • Muddy Mangrove Roots
  • Packed Mud
  • Block of Coal
  • Dirt
  • Coarse Dirt
  • Rooted Dirt
  • Podzol
  • Grass Block
  • Clay
  • Bone Block

This is the default way a Sulfur Cube behaves. It rolls at a balanced speed, bounces just enough to keep moving naturally, and isn’t too slippery or too grippy. If you’re looking for predictable movement without any special effects, this archetype is a solid all-around choice.

Bounces More Slowly

Most stone-like blocks give the Sulfur Cube this behavior. It moves slowly but still bounces high, making it feel like a heavy rubber ball instead of a lightweight one.

Becomes Heavy

Heavy blocks give the Sulfur Cube a much more grounded feel.

  • Block of Iron
  • Block of Gold
  • Block of Raw Copper
  • Block of Raw Gold
  • Block of Raw Iron
  • Gold Ore
  • Nether Gold Ore
  • Iron Ore
  • Copper Ore
  • Block of Netherite
  • Ancient Debris
  • Block of Copper
  • Copper Bulb
  • Cut Copper
  • Chiseled Copper

Instead of racing across the ground, this version moves at a slower pace and barely bounces. Its extra weight makes every movement feel more controlled, almost as if you’re rolling a heavy metal ball instead of a lightweight toy.

Slides More Slowly

These blocks make the Sulfur Cube slide across the ground instead of bouncing.

  • Brown Mushroom Block
  • Red Mushroom Block
  • Mushroom Stem
  • Mycelium
  • Nether Wart Block
  • Warped Wart Block
  • Shroomlight

It moves slowly with almost no bounce, making it behave much like a curling stone gliding across the ice.

Becomes Sticky

A Honeycomb Block gives the Sulfur Cube its Sticky behavior. Instead of bouncing or sliding away, it quickly sticks to the ground, making it useful when you want it to stop almost exactly where it lands.
