Enchanting is a unique mechanic in Minecraft that allows you to enhance items with magical abilities by granting them special properties. Thanks to this, you can increase the damage dealt by melee weapons, speed up the efficiency of your pickaxe, improve armor protection, or add unique effects that make gameplay easier. The process takes place using an enchanting table and requires gathering specific resources like lapis lazuli and experience levels, as well as strategically placing bookshelves that influence the power of enchantments. Enchanting is a key element in the pursuit of better equipment and effective combat against mobs in the world of Minecraft.
How to craft and use an Enchanting Table
To craft an enchanting table, you need the following materials:
- 4 obsidian blocks
- 2 diamonds
- 1 book
Place 3 obsidian blocks in the bottom row and one obsidian block in the center slot of the middle row. Then, place the 2 diamonds on either side of the center obsidian block in the middle row, and put the book in the top middle slot. After a moment, you will receive the enchanting table.

Book: Made from 3 pieces of paper and 1 piece of leather.
Obsidian: Created when water touches lava source blocks.
Diamonds: Found deep underground, usually between levels Y=1 and Y=15.
Bookshelves – What they are and how they work
Bookshelves are blocks that increase the enchantment levels available at the enchanting table – the more you place around the table (up to a maximum of 15), the more powerful enchantments you can get. To craft a bookshelf, you need 6 wooden planks and 3 books. .

Once crafted, place them at the same height or one block higher than the table. They must be placed exactly one block away horizontally from the table, and there must be no blocks between the table and the bookshelves

How to enchant items in Minecraft
Enchanting items in Minecraft requires a certain amount of experience levels, which is determined by the level of the enchantment you want to apply – it can range from 1 up to 30 levels. To be able to apply any enchantment, you must have your current level equal to or higher than the required level.

However, it’s important to understand that the number of levels actually deducted during enchanting is usually less than the required level for the enchantment. This is because the levels consumed are proportional to the amount of lapis lazuli you put into the enchanting table -usually between 1 and 3 pieces. For example, if an enchantment requires level 10 but needs 3 lapis lazuli to perform, only 3 experience levels will be deducted from your total level.
