Amethyst can only be found inside amethyst geodes – naturally generated, spherical structures with a unique interior. It does not appear in any ore form or scattered throughout the world – you must locate a geode to obtain the resource. Geodes generate at Y-levels between -58 and 30.
Here are the main places worth searching:
1. Caves – This is the most effective location for finding geodes. When generated inside natural caves, geodes are often partially exposed, and you can recognize them by their layers of basalt and calcite. In large cave types like Dripstone Caves or Lush Caves, the open space increases the chance of spotting a geode.
2. Under the ocean – Ocean floors are a great place to search, especially if you have a Potion of Night Vision. Geodes can sometimes be visible from the surface as dark, slightly spherical formations against the sand or clay. If you can’t spot one right away, try digging through the ocean floor — there’s a good chance you’ll uncover the basalt outer shell. Geodes can also occasionally generate under a thin layer of sand on beaches.
