How to Make an Eye of Ender in Minecraft

The Eye of Ender is one of the most important items in the game, as it allows you to locate the stronghold and activate the End portal. Without it, you won’t be able to complete the game and face the Ender Dragon. Although the crafting process itself is simple, obtaining the required ingredients can be a challenge.

In this guide, we will explain how to obtain Blaze Powder and Ender Pearls, as well as how to craft an Eye of Ender from them.

Steps to Get an Eye of Ender in Minecraft

If you want to craft an Eye of Ender in Minecraft, you need to combine Blaze Powder and an Ender Pearl in a crafting table. Below, you will find a detailed guide on how to find and prepare these ingredients.

Get Blaze Rod

To obtain a blaze rod, you need to go to the Nether and find a Nether Fortress – a large dark structure made of nether bricks that generates in this dimension. Inside the fortress, you need to locate a blaze spawner, where Blazes spawn. These mobs have a chance to drop blaze rods, so you need to defeat them.

Make Blaze Powder from Blaze Rod

Once you have obtained a blaze rod, you can turn it into blaze powder. Open the crafting table and place one blaze rod in any slot. This will give you 2 blaze powder, which is enough to craft two Eyes of Ender.

Get Ender Pearl

Another essential step is obtaining the second ingredient for the Eye of Ender – the Ender Pearl. The easiest way to get it is by defeating Endermen. These mobs spawn in various locations, but most commonly:

  • at night in the Overworld, especially in open areas where they are easier to spot
  • in the Nether, particularly in the warped forest biome

After finding an Enderman, you need to provoke it by looking directly into its eyes, then defeat it. Upon death, there is a chance it will drop an Ender Pearl.

If you’re unlucky and don’t get any Ender Pearls from Endermen, there are other ways to obtain them:

  • Stronghold or Trial Chambers – these structures can contain Ender Pearls as chest loot
  • Cleric Villager – may offer Ender Pearls in trades for around 5 emeralds
  • Piglin bartering – you can trade gold with Piglins, but the chance of receiving an Ender Pearl is only about 2.13%, making it a less efficient method

Craft Eye of Ender

The final step is crafting the Eye of Ender. Open the crafting table and place an Ender Pearl and Blaze Powder in any slots. After combining these ingredients, you will get an Eye of Ender, which is essential for locating the stronghold and accessing the End portal.

How Many Eye of Ender Do I Need for Portal?

To activate the End Portal, you need up to 12 Eyes of Ender, as each portal frame requires one. In some cases, a few Eyes of Ender may already be placed, so you might need fewer.

However, it’s a good idea to prepare a few extra, since some of them will be used while searching for the stronghold.

How to Use Eye of Ender to Find Stronghold?

To find a stronghold, hold the Eye of Ender and use it by right-clicking. The eye will be thrown into the air and travel in the direction of the nearest stronghold.

Why Did My Eye of Ender Disappear?

The disappearance of the Eye of Ender is a normal game mechanic. Each time you use it, there is about a 20% chance that the eye will break and disappear permanently.

In the remaining cases, it will fall to the ground and you can pick it up and use it again. Because of the risk of losing it, it’s a good idea to prepare extra Eyes of Ender.
