In Minecraft, one of the more subtle yet elegant colors available to players is the ocean-like shade known as cyan. It fits perfectly in modern builds, interior decoration, stained glass, wool coloring, or banners. While at first glance it might seem harder to obtain than the more basic colors, in reality, collecting the right materials isn’t much of a challenge – as long as you know where to look.
There are two main ways to get this color. The first is the classic method: combining green and blue, which is fast, convenient, and available almost from the very beginning of the game. The second option was introduced in newer versions of Minecraft and involves using a plant called Pitcher Plant, which can be obtained after interacting with the prehistoric mob known as the Sniffer.
How to make Cyan Dye using Pitcher Plants
Pitcher Plant is an exotic-looking flower inspired by real-life carnivorous plants. It not only looks amazing, but also has one practical use – it can be crafted into cyan dye. The Pitcher Plant doesn’t grow naturally in any biome, and to obtain it, you’ll need to interact with a mob called the Sniffer. This is a prehistoric creature that can sniff out ancient plant seeds hidden in the ground.

Once you manage to tame or breed a Sniffer, and it sniffs up a Pitcher Pod on grassy terrain, you’ll be able to plant the seed and wait for the plant to fully grow. When it’s fully matured, place it in a crafting table to receive two units of cyan dye. It’s not a very efficient method, though, since obtaining the plant takes quite a bit of time and effort.

How to make Cyan Dye by mixing green and blue dyes
The most traditional and also the most efficient method of obtaining the cyan color is by mixing green and blue pigments. It’s a simple method that doesn’t require taming a special mob like the Sniffer. All you need to do is place green and blue dyes into the crafting table, and you’ll instantly receive 2 cyan dyes.

- You can obtain the blue color in two ways: from lapis lazuli ore, which is found deep underground, or from the cornflower, a blue flower that grows in plains and forest biomes. If you’re a beginner, this is definitely the easiest and most reliable method – especially if you want to collect it in bulk.
- You can obtain green pigment by smelting cactus in a furnace. This plant is easy to find in desert and savanna biomes. Just collect a few pieces and place them in a furnace with any type of fuel – after a few seconds, you’ll get the finished material.
