Woodland Mansion in Minecraft: Everything you need to know

The Woodland Mansion is a mysterious structure that generates exclusively in the Dark Forest biome. This massive building has up to three floors and dozens of rooms, many of which are randomly selected when the world is created. Inside, you’ll encounter hostile mobs, hidden rooms, loot-filled chests, and rare creatures like the Allay. It’s also one of the few places where you can obtain the Totem of Undying – an item that can save you from death. The mansion is so vast that it’s easy to get lost inside.

How to find Woodland Mansion

To find a Woodland Mansion, the most reliable method is to obtain an explorer map from a cartographer villager. First, you need to locate a village and assign one of the villagers the cartographer profession by placing a cartography table near them. Once the villager reaches the appropriate level, they will be able to offer you a Woodland Explorer Map – a special map that shows the approximate location of a Woodland Mansion. On the map, you’ll see the symbol of the structure as well as your current position – simply head in the indicated direction, and after some time, you’ll reach your destination.

If you’d prefer to get there faster, you can use a command in Creative mode:

/locate structure minecraft:mansion

Hostile mobs in Woodland Mansion

Once you reach the mansion, you’ll encounter some of the most dangerous mobs in the game – ones you won’t find in such numbers anywhere else. The most common are Vindicators, aggressive illagers armed with axes who will attack you on sight and can deal massive damage if you’re unprepared. You’ll also run into Evokers, magical illagers who not only cast spells but also summon small, ghost-like creatures called Vexes that can fly through walls. Vexes are fast, hard to hit, and capable of dealing serious damage if you let them get close. Evokers are the only mobs that drop the Totem of Undying, so it’s a good idea to take them out first to secure this valuable item. Aside from these unique enemies, the mansion can also spawn regular hostile mobs like zombies, skeletons, creepers, or spiders – especially in dark, unlit rooms.

Rooms in Woodland Mansion

One of the rarest structures in Minecraft, the Woodland Mansion is full of mysterious rooms — both standard and secret. The building spans three floors and can contain dozens of rooms such as dining halls, carpeted chambers, libraries, crop farms, and many more. Even more intriguing are the secret rooms, which are not visible from the hallways and can only be accessed by breaking through walls. Among these hidden rooms are:

  • End Portal Room – features a fake End portal, lava, and silverfish traps
  • Lava Room – a very rare room containing a pool of lava
  • Obsidian Room – a dark chamber with an obsidian structure hiding a diamond block inside
  • Spider Room – filled with cobwebs and occasionally a spider spawner
  • Attic Room – a two-level space with a hidden chest on the upper floor
  • X Room – the most common secret room, with a hidden chest in the center of a cobblestone X-shaped structure

These secret rooms add a layer of mystery and reward for players willing to thoroughly explore or break through the walls of the mansion.
