DayZ Blood Types Chart: Compatibility Guide

In DayZ, every second can decide between life and death, and even a minor wound can begin a slow process leading to blood loss. There are many causes of bleeding – most often it’s a bite, a gunshot, or a serious injury from an accident, explosion, or close combat. More severe wounds cause an immediate drop in blood levels and significant weakness.

In such cases, you’ll need a blood transfusion from another survivor. Unfortunately, this isn’t always possible – if you receive blood from an incompatible type, you can lose consciousness and die within moments. That’s why understanding the blood type system is so important. Knowing your own blood type and how to match compatible donors is the key to survival after a serious injury.

Which blood types are compatible in DayZ

Not every drop of blood can save your life – the wrong decision in DayZ can take it away just as quickly. If blood of an incompatible type is transfused, a hemolytic reaction may occur – a dangerous condition that leads to rapid health deterioration, loss of consciousness, and even death. Before performing a transfusion, make sure you know both your own blood type and your donor’s. The table below shows which blood types can be safely combined.

How to do a blood transfusion in DayZ

1. Check blood type

The first step you need to take is checking your blood type. To do this, use the Blood Testing Kit on yourself. Once completed, your blood type will be permanently displayed in the HUD in the lower right corner of the screen.

Each survivor in DayZ is randomly assigned a blood type upon spawning, and the probability of receiving each one is as follows:

  • O+ – 43%
  • A+ – 23%
  • O− – 10%
  • B+ – 9%
  • A− – 5%
  • B− – 3%
  • AB+ – 2%
  • AB− – 2%

2. Check blood compatibility

Next, make sure that your blood type and the donor’s are compatible. If they are not, and there’s a risk of a hemolytic reaction, don’t take the chance – instead of blood, use a Saline Bag IV, which will safely stabilize your character and help restore blood levels.

3. Donate blood from donor

Once you’ve confirmed that you and the donor are compatible, use the Blood Bag Kit on the player to collect blood. The kit will automatically draw 500 ml of blood, which will be stored in the attached bag.

4. Perform a transfusion

Once the Blood Bag Kit has been filled with blood, combine it with an IV Start Kit to create a Blood Bag IV. The completed Blood Bag IV can then be used to perform a blood transfusion in DayZ.

A successful blood transfusion is the fastest way to restore lost blood, but not the only one. In DayZ, the human body can naturally regenerate blood if given the right conditions. This process is slower but completely safe and carries no risk of a hemolytic reaction. To begin regeneration, your character must be both well-fed and hydrated – only then will the slow restoration of blood levels start. An alternative option is to use a Saline Bag IV, which will temporarily stabilize your character and help maintain blood volume.
