How to make Flint and Steel in Minecraft

In the world of Minecraft, every block and item has its own unique purpose. One of them is Flint and Steel, a tool that significantly makes gameplay easier, even though at first glance it might seem like a simple item. With it, you can light a campfire, ignite candles, or activate TNT. What’s more, without Flint and Steel, you won’t be able to open a Nether portal – the gateway to an alternative, dark dimension filled with valuable resources as well as deadly dangers. This item also plays an important role when interacting with mobs. Using it on a Creeper will cause an instant explosion, destroying a large area of terrain. Other mobs, on the other hand, can be set on fire, making combat much easier.

Flint and Steel crafting recipe

To craft Flint and Steel, you need two ingredients: Flint and an Iron Ingot. Place them in the crafting table to obtain the finished item.

How to get Flint in Minecraft

Flint can most commonly be obtained by breaking Gravel blocks, which are the primary source of this material. Gravel appears in a huge number of locations, making it relatively easy to access. You’ll most often find this block at the bottom of oceans, rivers, and lakes, where it forms large clusters. It also frequently appears on beaches, in mountains, and in biomes such as windswept hills, where it covers vast stretches of terrain. Sometimes it can also be found in underground tunnels and caves, as well as in ocean ruins or trail ruins.

Flint doesn’t drop from every Gravel block you break – the standard chance is about 10%. In practice, this means you might get it on your very first try, but other times you’ll need to break several blocks before it drops. If you don’t have any nearby sources of Gravel, you can look for flint in chests found in villages, especially in the fletcher’s house or in blacksmith chests. Additionally, there’s also a chance to find it in chests at ruined portals.

How to get Iron Ingot in Minecraft

The next essential ingredient is Iron Ingots. The most common way to obtain this resource is by smelting iron ore. This ore generates in the Overworld, especially in mountains and underground, appearing in large veins at various heights. To use it, you need to mine it with a pickaxe and place it in a furnace or blast furnace, along with fuel such as coal or wood.

However, this is not the only way to obtain Iron Ingots – you can also get them by smelting iron tools, weapons, and armor, which can often be found in chests during exploration. Additionally, a valuable source of iron is Iron Golems, which drop several ingots when defeated. Ready-made ingots can also be found in villages, temples, mineshafts, bastions, and ruined portals.
