Wetland biomes are places where land meets water in a variety of forms – from muddy swamps and winding rivers to rocky shores and tropical mangroves. At first glance, they might seem like simple background terrain compared to more prominent biomes, but they actually hide several unique structures, mobs, and resources.
River
The River biome is a narrow, winding strip of land that most often appears between other biomes and contains a riverbed several blocks deep, usually with clay, sand, or dirt along its banks. It often shows up in valleys between hills and mountains, giving the area a picturesque feel. In terms of gameplay in Minecraft, this biome has practical value. Water is available here in large quantities, which makes it easier to set up farms and irrigation systems. You can often find sand, clay, and sometimes sugar cane there, making it a resource-rich area. Rivers are also home to Cod, Salmon and Drowned.

Frozen River
Frozen River is a variant of the standard River biome that appears in cold climate zones near Snowy Taiga, Snowy Plains, or Ice Spikes. The main feature of this area is that the surface of the water is completely covered with ice, allowing boats to slide across it at high speeds, creating fast transportation routes. Frozen River is relatively poor when it comes to mob spawns, but you can still find clay and sand here.

Swamp
The Swamp biome is one of the most distinctive and eerie places in Minecraft. It stands out with its murky green grass and leaves, as well as its dark water covered in lily pads. It’s a very interesting place in terms of resources – you can gather lily pads, clay, vines, sugar cane and mushrooms here. It’s also worth mentioning the presence of Slime Chunks, which allow players to collect slime without having to go underground.
As for the inhabitants of this biome, aside from classic mobs like skeletons or zombies, you can encounter a witch living with her cat in a small hut, ready to throw various potions at you. Meeting her is a great opportunity to obtain rare resources like redstone or glowstone.

Mangrove Swamp
Mangrove Swamp is a variant of the classic Swamp biome, characterized by a densely overgrown tropical environment where massive trees with exposed roots dominate the landscape. The most important resource here is mud, which can be collected with a shovel and crafted into mud bricks. You’ll also find mangrove trees, from which you can collect mangrove propagules. Additionally, sugar cane and mushrooms can be gathered in this biome.
When it comes to inhabitants, this is the only biome where frogs naturally spawn. These friendly creatures come in different colors depending on the biome’s temperature. Frogs eat small slimes and magma cubes, and in return, they can produce froglights.

Beach
Beach is a seemingly calm and unimpressive biome that connects land with ocean. Although the terrain is mostly made of sand, an important resource for crafting glass, you won’t find any complex structures or rare plants here. However, what makes this biome special is what can appear on it — namely, turtles and shipwrecks.
Turtles are the only creatures in Minecraft that lay eggs on beaches. When you find two turtles and feed them seagrass, they will lay eggs on the nearest beach. Eventually, baby turtles hatch from the eggs, and once they grow up, they drop scute, which is required to craft a turtle shell helmet.
If you move a little away from the beach and dive into the nearby ocean, you might come across shipwrecks. Inside these sunken ships, you can find up to three chests, which may contain gold, emeralds, and even treasure maps that lead you to buried treasure hidden under the sand.

Snowy Beach
Snowy Beach is a beach covered in snow that only generates where the ocean meets cold biomes. This location doesn’t offer any resources other than sand.

Stony Shore
Stony Shore is a rocky coastline that appears where tall mountains or cliffs meet the ocean. Instead of sand, you’ll find stone, gravel, and sometimes coal exposed in the walls. This rugged landscape is a good place to start mining and gather your first resources.
