How to get Coral in Minecraft

Coral in Minecraft is one of the most colorful and aesthetically pleasing block types, found naturally only in one biome – the Warm Ocean. Not only is it a fantastic decorative element, but it’s also a clear sign that you’ve discovered a unique and rare location in the game world. In this article, we’ll explain how to find a reef and how to safely collect these beautiful blocks without destroying them.

How to find Warm Ocean in Minecraft

The Warm Ocean is a tropical biome where you can find coral reefs, tropical fish, pufferfish, and coral blocks in as many as five different colors. This biome doesn’t generate everywhere, but there are ways to increase your chances of finding one. It usually spawns near other warm and tropical biomes, such as:

  • Beach
  • Jungle
  • Savanna
  • Badlands
  • Wooded Badlands Plateau

Once you find a Warm Ocean, get ready for a true festival of colors and underwater life! In addition to vibrant coral (which appears as blocks, fans, and full coral reefs), you’ll discover tropical fish in a wide variety of colors and patterns, squids, dolphins, and drowned (especially at night or in darker parts of the ocean). Alongside these unique creatures, keep an eye out for shipwrecks and underwater ruins.

Coral in Minecraft comes in 3 different forms and 5 distinct colors, which adds up to a total of 15 unique blocks. The available colors are:

  • BlueTube
  • PinkBrain
  • PurpleBubble
  • RedFire
  • YellowHorn

How to collect coral in Minecraft

Collecting these colorful blocks might seem simple at first, but without the right tools, they’re very easy to destroy. To harvest a live block, you must use a tool enchanted with Silk Touch. A pickaxe is most commonly used, but a shovel or an axe will also work – as long as they have the enchantment. If you try to collect coral without Silk Touch, it will instantly turn into a dead block, losing its vibrant color and decorative look.

It’s also important to remember that coral dies when placed outside of water. Even if you collect it correctly with Silk Touch, placing it on land or in a dry space will cause it to turn gray and lifeless within seconds.

To keep these colorful blocks from losing their vibrant color, they must be fully submerged in water. For best results, it’s safest to place them at the bottom of the ocean or an aquarium, inside water-filled structures, or in artificial tanks designed to keep them completely surrounded by source water blocks.
