Deerclops is one of the most distinctive bosses in Terraria – a massive creature from Don’t Starve Together, introduced as part of the official crossover between the two games. He’s not part of the main storyline, so many players might easily miss him, especially since he only appears under very specific conditions. Instead of waiting for him to show up during a blizzard, you can summon him manually – but only in a certain place and at a certain time. In this guide, you’ll learn exactly how to do it step by step.
First, Get the Deer Thing
First, the very first step you must take is acquiring a special crafting item called Deer Thing. You craft it at a Demon Altar or Crimson Altar, depending on which evil biome (Corruption or Crimson) was generated in your world, using the following materials:
- 3 × Flinx Fur — dropped by Snow Flinxes in the underground parts of the Snow biome
- 5 × Demonite Ore or 5 × Crimtane Ore — you can get these by defeating the Eye of Cthulhu or by mining in the Corruption/Crimson biome
- 1 × Lens — dropped by Demon Eyes
Once you have gathered all these materials, go to the altar and craft the Deer Thing.
Find the Snow Biome
Snow Biome is covered in ice and snow – this is exactly where you can summon Deerclops. No other location will work, even if you have the Deer Thing.
It’s pretty easy to spot this biome:
- The ground is covered with snow, and instead of normal grass you’ll see snowy terrain blocks.
- In the background you can see mountains and winter forests.
- At night, a blizzard (snowstorm) often occurs – and that’s when Deerclops can spawn naturally.
- On the surface of the world, this biome appears on one side of the map, usually next to the Forest or Corruption/Crimson.
How to Summon the Deerclops
When you’re already in the Snow Biome and have the Deer Thing in your inventory, you can proceed to summon the boss. However, you can’t do it at just any time – there are specific requirements. You can only summon it at night (after dusk and before dawn), and within the Snow Biome – if you leave it even briefly, the item won’t work. Stand in an open area and wait for night. Once night falls, open your inventory and use the Deer Thing. After a moment, the screen will slightly shake and the boss will appear, ready to turn your life into a nightmare.
