If you’ve already defeated the Wall of Flesh and entered Hardmode, you know the real fun is just beginning. Monsters hit harder, the underground starts glowing with strange new metals, and the skies themselves seem to change. And then, out of nowhere, he appears – The Destroyer.
He’s the mechanical counterpart of the Eater of Worlds, that giant worm from the Corruption. But unlike his organic cousin, the Destroyer is a full-on steel nightmare – insanely long, insanely strong, and with a health bar that feels almost endless. This mechanical beast only shows up in Hardmode, standing as one of the three Mech Bosses that guard the next stage of Terraria’s progression.

First, Craft the Mechanical Worm
To summon The Destroyer, you’ll first need to prepare a special item called the Mechanical Worm. It doesn’t drop from any enemy, so the only reliable way to get it is to craft it yourself.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- 6 Souls of Night – dropped by enemies in the underground Corruption or Crimson during Hardmode.
- 6 Rotten Chunks (from Corruption worlds) or 6 Vertebrae (from Crimson worlds) – these drop from common enemies like Eater of Souls or Face Monsters.
- 5 Iron Bars or 5 Lead Bars – basic metal bars you can find almost anywhere.
Once you’ve gathered all the materials, head to a Mythril Anvil or Orichalcum Anvil, open your crafting menu, and you’ll see the Mechanical Worm appear as a recipe.
Summoning The Destroyer
Once you’ve crafted the Mechanical Worm, you can finally face one of Hardmode’s most dangerous bosses. But simply using the item isn’t enough – you’ll need to meet a few conditions first.
When night falls, get ready on your arena. Ideally, you should have several layers of wooden platforms, which will let you dodge his lasers and move up and down with ease. Staying mobile is the key to survival.
When everything is set, open your inventory and use the Mechanical Worm. A few seconds later, the ground will start to tremble, and from the depths below, a massive, glowing, red-eyed mechanical worm will burst into view. That’s The Destroyer – and from that moment, the battle begins instantly.
